Back when Destiny launched, I picked up the limited edition for my birthday. All was well all the way through The Dark Below but then life happened and I had to work a lot more. About a month later, I was able to get back to Destiny (about the time the trailer for House of Wolves dropped) but I was met with the weirdest of things. Every time I inserted the disc, nothing would happen. No error messages on my Xbone. Nothing. The little tile at the bottom that would usually change to the picture of the game you want to play would stay exactly as it was and continue telling me to “Insert disc”. I decided to make sure it wasn’t my Xbone messing with me and I inserted a few of my other games, all of which worked first time, every time. So I tried Destiny again. Again, nothing. So I said screw it and I looked to see how much I could get it for as a digital download. $59.99. Absolutely not. No way am I spending another sixty bucks on a game I’ve already dropped a hundred on. So I played other games. Tried to push it out of my mind. Then the 19th of May happened and all my friend were playing Destiny again. I threw the disc in once again to see if it would work. Nope. My wife happened to find a deal where Toys R Us was advertising it for $19,99. We also had a $5 coupon to Toys R Us, 15 bucks? Yea, I can do that. Went to the store and picked up the second to last copy they had. Brought it home, opened it up, inserted disc. “Insert disc”. Still there. Got online with Xbox Customer Support and after a long fought battle of them telling me that it had to be a problem with Destiny’s servers and me trying not to laugh hysterically at there idiocracy, I exchanged the game for Toys R Us’s last copy. Same fricken thing happens again. I got online with Xbox support again and this time I got a competent individual who had me try a few things, none of which worked. And now, I’m here. Asking if anyone here on Reddit has ever had this issue and, if so, how did you fix it?

tl;dr: My launch day destiny disc stopped being recognized by my Xbone and neither will the other two discs that I have tried today (both of which were brand new). All other games and media work though.

Did you try deleting the entire game off the Xbox?

Yup. Did that and now up can’t even reinstall it because the dampened console won’t recognize the disc when it’s inserted.

I’ve tried. The “support” aspect of their website is actually a forum that you can post in and other people post what they think could fix it. Most of the time it’s just people telling you to sell your Xbox One and buy a PS4 or “PC master race” bullshit.

I can’t seem to find a customer service number or Bungie chat or anything. Then, when trying the same thing with Activision, they don’t even have a Destiny support as far as I can find.

I was online in the chat with Xbox support yesterday twice. Not quite sure I want to do that any time soon again. As a person who works with computers and their networks every day, those people have no idea what the hell a communication device is, much less what it does.

And I would assume that my Xbox is not under warranty as I bought it on launch night.

Instead of making a new account, I tried it under my wife’s account. Still no dice. It feels as if it should be my Xbox but it’s only happening with Destiny. I returned the copy I just bought and they tried it in their store demo Xbox and it weirdly worked. But it only happens with Destiny. Both FM5 and FH2 work. CoD:AW works. Halo: MC Collection works. It just makes no sense why only one game would take a shit on me.

If by cheesing you mean glitch exploiting, no. I loved Destiny from the start and saw people getting the banishment right off the bat that I didn’t want to risk it.

Do/did you uninstall everything accoicated with destiny? On all accounts with the Xbox? Like the dark below and the season pass thing. Have you wiped all that?

I’ve only uninstalled the core game. If I uninstall all the DLC (Season Pass, Vanguard Armory, plus two(ish) more), won’t I lose access to it? Or will I be able to re-download it for free?

You should be able to redownload it for free. Because those are holding onto your data and I think it needs like all new data for it.

Would that prevent the console from recognizing there is a disk inserted? The weird thing is that it’s a problem that I would absolutely say it was the console hardware were it not for the fact that it reads and plays all my other games. It’s literally only Destiny. Weirdest problem I’ve ever seen.

I have a 4TB USB drive that I use as my main storage. I’ll make sure the DLC data is copied to it and then remove it and try installing. I’ll try and let you know how it goes if I have time to do it tonight.

Sooooo...yup. That didn’t work either. I don’t even have any Destiny data that I can find on either the local console storage or my removable. This is definitely a problem that makes absolutely no sense.

So. That didn’t work for me. And I realized that the reason you never got that message was because I accidentally replied to my own post. Anyways, I just caved and got the digital download. It’s currently downloading/installing and should be good to go. Thanks so much for all the help and advice!

Honestly, a little boring. Only because it comes relatively easy to me. I’m doing the same job in the Air Force that my dad does for a high school. The one thing that really sucks, though, are the customers. People who don’t know anything (or worse, think they know everything) about computers that try to tell you how to do your job. It’s a good gig. I love it. But there are days that the last thing I want to see when I come home is another computer. And there’s the reason that it was so frustrating to me that I couldn’t figure out what was going on with my Xbox! Ha ha.

It locked up on my when I found a audio log and I went into the pause menu it just kinda locked up but the animation was running around the A button.

Huh. That’s weird. But then again, MCC has been a crap shoot since day one. Granted it is a lot better now.
